Left on the Shelf

I sit here alone but not alone.
I know many are the same.
As we are ignored, rejected
And laughed at.
They cause unnecessary pain.

I sit here and watch with a sigh,
As all the lucky ones get their chance.
The teddies, balloons, mugs and cards.
All swirl out as if in a dance.

It seems I’m only ever wanted once a year.
At Christmas for someone they dislike or hate.
So have a heart next Valentines day and remember,
Life for novelty socks isn’t that great.

Ditch the bouquet of roses
And the chocolates too.
Take me home to those you love
And I will stop their feet turning blue.
